Within the framework of NAIS 2025 national exhibition and forum of civil aviation infrastructure, a grand ceremony of upgraded ATM system commissioning took place in Magadan Regional ATM Center of the North-East Air Navigation branch. The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Starovoit, Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Dmitry Yadrov, Governor of the Magadan Region, Sergey Nosov, and Director of the North-East Air Navigation branch, Alexander Sobol.
In December 2024 NITA completed the project of Magadan Regional ATM Center re-equipment. Outdated equipment was successfully replaced, and the issues of enhancing the systems included the ATM system have been resolved.
Today the North-East Air Navigation branch successfully provides air navigation services in airspace over the entire territory of Magadan Region and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, above 8,100 meters over the Kamchatka Territory, as well as along ATC routes over the eastern part of the Arctic Ocean and the northwest Pacific Ocean, covering an area of more than 6.3 million kilometers square.
The upgraded ATM system includes:
- ALPHA-5 Air Traffic Control system including technical control and monitoring facilities;
- PLANETA-5 Airspace Management System including technical control and monitoring facilities;
- Voice communication switching system (VCSS) based on MEGAPHONE VCSS including technical control and monitoring facilities;
- Data transmission system;
- GRANIT-6 recording and playback system;
- EXPERT full air traffic control simulator;
- SPHERA Information protection system;
- Universal time system based on METRONOM precise timing system;
- A set of multi-purpose consoles of Pult-A series;
- Uninterrupted power sources;
- A test module.
All stages of the Magadan Regional ATM Center upgrade project starting from technical design and ending with installation and commissioning, as well as acceptance and operational tests, were performed to a high standard of quality and on time. The work was carried out in the existing technical building without interruptions of air traffic services. The work performed did not affect the level of air traffic safety; the operating availability of all radio communication and navigation facilities was ensured.
